A Great Day!

Just wanted to say that today was a fabulous way to spend a Wednesday. I woke up, after sleeping in and cuddling with my two babies. I later met my darling Janelle for lunch at Zov's (www.zovs.com) Newport Coast. Like many things in my life, Janelle has turned me on to a new fave! Zov's was delicious and I am already planning to take Jerome there as soon as our schedules permit. Not only was the food great, but it was soooooo good to see Janelle. Every time we get together we just can't seem to stop talking, and in our true fashion, we pretty much were the last people there today. It was so good to see her, and catch up. I only wish we could do it more often! I wanted to post a pic of us, and sadly, we don't really have any recent ones, so I decided to add this pic from a few years ago. It was a night where Janelle and I finished several bottles of wine (which isn't hard for us to do), and so you can only imagine the drunken antics that ensued. It is one of my favorite memories!

During our lunch, Janelle suggested I start reading David Sedaris books because they are laugh out loud funny. After

 our lunch I stopped at Target, and picked up one of his books, Me Talk Pretty One Day. I can't wait to start it!

On another note, Lou and Lola are continuing to get along fantastically. They are fascinated with each other, and I am so happy our match worked out! Today they both went to the groomer, and got all cleaned up. As any 'mom' would do for her 'daughter', I bought Lola her first dress and some hair clips today. Doesn't she just look adorable? Lou is against all clothes now that he is a grown boy, but Lola doesn't mind them at all! She has been cracking Jerome and I up all night by barking at herself in the 

mirror. It is so funny!

Meet Lola!

The Boroff clan has expanded! Today we rescued a 2 year old terrier mutt from Puppies and Babies in L.A. The owner had picked her up from a local kill shelter and brought her to his shop to be adopted out. This is a practice he regularly does, and it made Jerome and I so happy to know that someone out there had the ability to save those helpless pups taken to those horrible shelters. Jerome had been to the shop late last week, and returned today to find our lil' girl was available for immediate adoption. We are calling her Lola. She is just about 10 lbs, but don't let her small stature fool you! She is definitely giving Lou a run for his life. The two pups are getting along famously, and our happy little family finally feels complete. Although today was a really heavy day for me with the funeral and all, I feel that although one's life has ended, I find joy in the fact that I have given new life to a dog who might have lost if it weren't for a good Samaritan. How to Walk in High Heels

For my 27th birthday, my friends Vanessa and George got me this great book: How to Walk in High Heels by Camilla Morton. Ms. Morton is the runway editor for Vogue, so she definitely knows a thing or two about style. But this book is beyond mere clothing!  It is full of so many little tips about how to handle a variety of situations from how to turn off a water main to literally walking in high heels while pushing your groceries.

 We all know how much I love wearing my high heels, so it is no wonder that George and V knew I would love this book. There is an entire chapter devoted to heels, including a section on heel selection, written by none other than Manolo Blahnik  himself. He states, "As for the heel, honey, it's got to be high. High, high, high, higher, I say!". A man after my own heart. I could not agree more!

This book has been a fun a fabulous summer read. If you are anything close to a girlie girl, like myself, go out and get this book, and start your path to becoming a Galliano Girl! You will love it!

A Day in Beverly Hills

Last Thursday, in honor of our 4th wedding anniversary, I joined Jerome for the afternoon in Beverly Hills for a little lunch break from his work. We decided to have lunch at the totally romantic Il Cielo Restaurant in Beverly Hills (www.ilcielo.com). Jerome works only a few blocks away, and had passed this place several times. We had also seen it on The Hills (sad, I know!), and we are such the celeb gawkers that we thought this would be a fun place to try. We got there around 12:45, and were seated at a cute table for two on the outdoor patio. The place was very pretty and filled with old women, who were probably old actresses, studio exec wives, and the usual ladies who lunch. I had not been feeling too well that day, but we managed to order a Caesar salad and some pasta. The salad was delicious, as well as the foccacia bread. The past was definitely lack luster. I ordered a linguine with red sauce and eggplant and smoked mozzarella, which literally tasted like BBQ sauce. Jerome ordered a mushroom and butternut squash ravioli, which had a flavor only to be described and squishy and rubbery. Needless to say, the entrees we chose we horrible. But we vowed to come back again, even if only for the salad and bread.

After our lunch, we walked next door to the Louboutin store. At first glance, you would never know the store was even there. It barely has a sign, and must only be the size of my bedroom. We browsed the store, and I have to say I was highly disappointed in the selection. Although my beautiful Black Prive shoes came from this store, the rest of the selection was very dismal! I felt that Neiman's had a much bigger selection. So, as a note to any of you out there interested, save your time and go to Neimans. Lets hope the South Coast Plaza store will not be as disappointing!

We finished our day by cruising Robertson and 3rd, then checked out the cute neighborhoods adjacent to Jerome's office. I hope to make lunch and shopping in L.A a weekly thing while I'm still off on summer vacay. So much to explore!

In Reflection: Friendship

I attended the memorial service for my old friend Jesikah today. It was a wonderful tribute to her life. Even the earthquake, which we felt while watching a video montage of her pictures, was a sign of Jesikah and how she always gave you a little jolt in life.

 This whole experience has really put a lot of things in to perspective about life and friendship. It really made me examine the connections made with people, including the current friendships and those lost along the way. I attended the memorial service with my old friend Kristen, whom I had not seen in several years. We had grown up with Jess and it was because of her that we ever became friends ourselves. At some point in our teen years, Kristen and I had had a falling out with Jesikah, and in more recent years, Kristen and I had our own issues. Sitting there today made me realize how important friends are, and how much I've missed the connection we had. As a grown woman now, I look back on the petty arguments are discrepancies that led to the demise of so many relationships over the years. As I dropped Kristen off, we agreed that we were grown ups now, and could let the past be the past. I could not agree more! It was unfortunate that it took a tragedy to bring Kristen and I into each other's presence, but in a sense it was very symbolic of Jesikah. She was just the type of person to bring people together. 

I don't know if this will be rekindling of the closeness Kristen and I once had, but I am thankful that I had the chance to see her today. In regards to all friendships, I just want to say how lucky Jerome and I are to have the friends we have, and we love you all. Life is too short to spend it alone.

Today is our 4th wedding anniversary. Man, how time flies! These past 4 years have been amazing, and we are more in love today than ever before! As a tribute, I have posted some pics of Jerome and I over the years....Try not to laugh!

Goodbye, Old Friend!

My childhood friend, Jessica Schierenberg, passed away over the weekend. Although I have not spoken to her in ages, this time brings great sadness because her life was tragically taken too young. Since I heard the news, I have been thinking a lot about the Jess I knew,  and it seems like only yesterday we were staying up all night, giggling, reading Babysitters club books, becoming teenagers and getting in to trouble. Through the tears and sadness, I smile because I can remember the moments we shared, even if they were small. Jess was my first best friend. We grew from innocent little girls, to grown beautiful women together. I will always remember the first times she came to my house. She was always so happy and energetic. It would drive my parents crazy because she never wanted to go home, and would hide in our house when she knew it was time to leave. If only I could bring her back, she could hide forever. I remember our times in Girl Scouts, trips to the mall, school dances, our first boyfriends, our first kisses, our dreams of becoming a famous singing duo, swimming, dancing, cooking, NKOTB, laughing till we cried, and the smiles and tears we shared throughout the years. We shared a love of singing, and I still hear the song, "All I Wanna Do", by Sheryl Crow, and smile as I remember Jessica and I walking down the street, singing at the top of our lungs, preparing for what we hoped someday would be our big break. 

I know that our friendship never reached the dreams we had back then, but I can't help but feel hopeful that those memories would bring a smile to her face, as they do mine. I am lucky to have shared those years with Jess, and I will miss her.  

Where to begin?

I have been having some anxiety today, and it's over the blog!( I know, silly me to be stressed about a blog). My inner perfectionist has been going crazy trying to decide what to write. So much to say! Where do I begin? So many topics come to my mind, and I want it to be perfect, and witty, and true of my own voice. So I have been going back and forth all day about what to write. Jerome suggested I write about our trip to the Orange County Fair last Sunday (a first for me), and although I do want to share our experience there, it requires uploading some pics, and frankly I'm not in the mood. Plus the camera battery is dead...and so that post will have to wait. 

So on this lovely Friday afternoon, I have decided to make this blog more of a weekend update and blurb of the randomness that seems to be my daily routine. I will begin by saying that I am exhausted today because I stayed up almost all night. And not because I was out on the town, but for two reasons: 1) Our dog has decide

d he is human, and only sleeps comfortably when he is tucked under the blankets and head on my pillow, which leaves little room for myself. Meanwhile, Jerome and Lou are sleeping like babies. 

2)  I was captivated by a book. It wasn't a notable author. It was your average chick lit title, so I won't bore you with the details or embarrass myself by admitting it. What started out to be horribly blase, ended up catching my attention to the point that I could not stop until it was finished. Which happened to be 3:45 am. This wouldn't normally be a problem considering my night owl nature, but I had to be up at 7 to get ready for a nail appointment that I had so foolishly made too early. Needless to say, I am running on 3 hours sleep and minimal caffeine from half of a skinny hazelnut latte. (Perhaps I should have written that as a disclaimer on this blog, as a way to defend my thoughts that seem to be all over the place)

Anyhow, we are so excited because today begins the Anniversary Sale at Nordstrom! This sale comes once a year, and although Nordies does offer their Half-Yearly Sales, the Anniversary Sale is the one to look forward to. I love this sale because it is full of new merch and store exclusives (things ONLY carried during this sale). I had originally planned to go bright and early this morning (hence why I made the 8 am nail appointment ) and scout out the goods, then return over the weekend with Jerome to do his shopping. Instead, we have decided to make it a date-night event and shop together. In the meantime, being the skilled shopper with hours of free-time,  I have already previewed the sale, and made note of the items worth

 purchasing (a new velour Juicy Couture sweat suit,  Hudson jeans, a MAC brush set, as well as some True Religion jeans and 7 Diamonds shirts for Jerome...all well below regular price!!). And who knows, there might even be a pair of shoes lurking around with my name on it! 

On a final note, I just have to confess that I am falling more in love with our pup Louis everyday. We have been able to bond during my summer job hiatus, and I will be so sad when September rolls around and I am unable to spend my days cuddling with him or strolling the beach for hours on end. He is one lucky pup to be loved so much, and we are even luckier to be loved by him!
