Jerome's Halloween costume this year was Ash Ketchum, of Pokemon fame. This was a throw back to our niece Victoria and I, and our love of the Poke! If only we could have found Lola the costume, she would have made the most perfect Pikachu!
If you know me, you know how much I love politics. You know that I pride myself in being an informed citizen and I that I have been following this presidential election since it began 20 months ago. I'm not one to rant and rave about my views and beliefs, but I just wanted to share my feelings on this election. I love voting day, and feel it is so important to make a big deal out of the process. As Americans, voting is both our right and responsibility. I have voted in every election since I turned 18, and although previous elections got me riled up, nothing made me feel like this time around. As I dutifully cast my ballot, I found myself tearing up. Not from sadness, but out of gratefulness to the fact that I as a single person, have the opportunity to take part in such a historic event. This election brought upon such feelings of hope for our country. As a teacher, I feel like this election brings a chance for my students to make it out there in this scary place we call reality. I have watched our economy and world relations go down the toilet over the past 8 years, and I was eager to cast my ballot for some change. Later that evening, when it was announced that Barack Obama was to be our 44th president, I found myself weeping again. Obama brings so much hope into my heart and the hearts of millions of others. Just listening to him speak makes me feel like anything is possible in our world. He is proof that change is happening, and it's about damn time! This change goes far beyond political regimes and government policies. It is so much deeper than that! Barack Obama is proof that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. At one time in our nation's history, African Americans couldn't even drink from the same water fountains as other Americans, and today, we as a people have elected an African American as president. What an amazing country we live in! Finally, progress is being made. I feel that this hits home for me because many of my students are minorities. I spend the day motivating my students, encouraging them to follow their dreams and take on the world. Students have often expressed there dreams of being president one day, and at times I found myself questioning the reality of such possibilities. Barack Obama has given me the hope I need to push these students further and know that they CAN do anything, no matter what their background! He has renewed my faith in the American spirit, and I am proud to say that I took part in such a historic event. Thank you Barack, Thank you!
Wedding season has officially ended for the Boroff's (or at least until the next one we are going to in December). As many of you know, it seems Jerome and I are always going to weddings. Who knew one could know so many people looking to tie the knot? The funny thing is: this is not a new trend. Jerome and I have had this situation for years. Our friend Aimee use to joke that we were on some wedding invitation database where people just automatically invited us. Lucky for me, I love weddings. Even though we have been married for over four years now, I still get all giddy at the thought of a wedding. I love the splendor of it. The gowns, the tuxedos, the decor, the cake, the ambiance, the champagne. I just can't get enough!
